General
The National
Children's Choir and Youth Chorale of Australia encourages
expressions
of interest to be emailed, faxed or mailed to Dawn Brewer, at
any time. These are read and when a vacancy arises, interviews
are arranged. Telephone calls are also welcome. (Generally,
applicants are interviewed and auditioned in Term Three and
Four each year, for employment in the following year.)
All staff
are expected to be good musicians. Conductors are asked to cite
their previous choral experience. Vocal skills are highly valued
for those applying for conducting positions, however, accompanying
skills are unnecessary. Conductors,
performers, and primary and secondary music teachers are welcome
to apply.
It is preferred,
but
not essential,
that accompanists/repetiteurs are good sight readers. Music
students wishing to gain experience may apply.
In addition
to weekly rehearsals, occasional weekend work is required.
Employees
are usually expected to commit for about 12 months, via an Employment
Agreement (exceptions are occasionally made) and most are hired
as part time employees with the benefits of paid sick leave,
paid public holidays, paid annual leave (four
weeks)
and superannuation entitlements. (Our musicians usually work
forty weeks or less each year.) Also, casual vacancies occur
from time to time.
Only those
who understand the qualities required by a highly skilled choir
and understand the legal (and moral) obligations of a fixed
term contract (when applicable) need apply. For the right people
there is an abundance of administrative and other support, and
numerous opportunities to learn from and mix with a wonderful
team of musicians with similar interests.
